Provided is an insert which can have a rake angle corresponding to the hardness of a material to be cut and which is configured so that a rise in the material cost can be minimized even if the strength of the cutting edge section is increased. An insert has a polygonal shape and has a cutting edge section (3) at at least one side of the polygon. The cutting edge section (3) is provided with a recessed cutting edge (4) comprising: a rake face (12) which has a protrusion formed on one surface in the thickness direction; and a flank face (11) which has a recess formed in the surface intersecting the one surface in the thickness direction. |
