<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biometric authentication technique that can be applied to more types of spaces and has excellent authentication speed and authentication accuracy even when the number of users is large. <P>SOLUTION: A biometric authentication system 10 includes: a registration terminal 100; an authentication terminal 120; and an authentication server 140 having probability calculation means 204 for using auxiliary information obtained from the authentication terminal 120 and probability distribution information obtained from the registration terminal 100 to calculate and store a probability that a person requesting authentication is an appropriate registrant for each registrant, narrowing means 205 for narrowing registration feature amounts by specifying registrants having a probability of a predetermined value or higher, sorting means 206 for sorting a list of the narrowed registration feature amounts in descending order of the probabilities, collation means 207 for collating each registration feature amount with an authentication feature amount of the person requesting authentication obtained from the authentication terminal successively in the descending order of the probabilities to calculate a degree of similarity between each registration feature amount and the authentication feature amount, update probability calculation means 208 for re-calculating the probabilities using the degree of similarity to update the probabilities, and identification means 209 for identifying the person requesting authentication by specifying that a person having the updated probability equal to or higher than a predetermined reference is the appropriate person. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
