<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a HIsmelt process by a pre-heated air based system. <P>SOLUTION: The process includes: a stage of forming molten metal and molten slag in a metallurgical vessel; a step of injecting a ferrous feed material and a solid carbonaceous material through a lance/a tuyere angled in an inward direction and a downward direction, smelting the ferrous feed material to metal, setting the carbon concentration of molten iron to ≤3%, generating a gas flow by reactions of the ferrous feed material with the carbonaceous material, and raising a molten bath; and a step of injecting the pre-heated air into the vessel such that the reaction gas is post-combusted and heat transfer to the molten bath is promoted. The pre-heated air is injected from the lance into the vessel at an angle of 20-90° relative to a horizontal axis, at a temperature of 800-1,400°C and at a velocity of 200-600 m/s to form a "free" space around the lower end of the lance by separating the raised molten material in the region of the lower end of the lance from the lance. The lance extends in the metallurgical vessel by a distance that is at least the outer diameter of the lower end of the lance. The lower end of the lance is arranged to be positioned at 3 times or more of the outer diameter of the lower end of the lance above the quiescent surface of the molten bath. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
