<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact lithium ion secondary battery having excellent electrochemical properties, and a technology to manufacture the same with high productivity. <P>SOLUTION: A negative electrode active material layer 12 contains Li<SB POS="POST">4</SB>Ti<SB POS="POST">5</SB>O<SB POS="POST">12</SB>as a negative electrode active material, and a positive electrode active material layer 14 contains LiCoO<SB POS="POST">2</SB>as a positive electrode active material. A solid electrolyte layer 13 contains polyethylene oxide and polystyrene as electrolytes. The surface of each linear element 121 constituting the negative electrode active material layer 12 has a gradient less than 90 degrees with respect to the surface of a negative electrode collector 11.
