The method involves detecting and storing a road gradient and slope of curve of the road gradient in a vehicle location when initially driving on a respective roadway section. An operating variable is proactively controlled and/or regulated by a drive train (6) based on the road gradient. A slope of curve of road section lying immediately adjacent to an already busy road section is assumed in controlling and/or regulating the operating variable. A slope of curve of traffic road gradients is two-dimensionally stored in an electronic map.
