PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide means to select a highly reliable organic LED device which is low in risk for a failure before the end of lifetime thereof.
SOLUTION: The means includes the steps of: i) subjecting a device to a high electric field over an electroluminescent layer; and ii) detecting instabilities in a leakage current, referred to as noise. The step of (i) subjecting a device to a high electric field over an electroluminescent layer classifies the device into two, clearly separated, populations, namely one population with a low leakage current and one population with a high leakage current. In the step, the first population is selected in accordance with a current criterion. In the step (ii) of detecting instabilities in a leakage current, referred to as noise, it is established that the instabilities arise in particular at a reverse driving voltage between 1 and 10 volts. The instabilities are an indication of the occurrence of early failures during operation. In the step, the device is selected in accordance with a noise criterion.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
