The device (10) has an air compressor (12) compressing air for a compressed air system of a motorvehicle. A compressor (24) of a charging device i.e. turbocharger, compresses air supplied to an internal combustion engine. The air compressed by the compressor of the charging device is partially supplied to the air compressor. A cooling device i.e. intercooler (28), is arranged downstream of the compressor of the charging device and upstream of the air compressor. The cooling device cools the air compressed by the compressor of the charging device and supplied to the air compressor. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an air compression device for a motor vehicle i.e. commercial motor vehicle.
