1312379 Steroid glycosides FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 30 June 1970 [30 June 1969] 31559/70 Heading C2U The invention comprises (A) the 3-(#-D- galactosides) of digitoxigenin and strophanthidin; and (B) a process for preparing compounds of Formula I from compounds of Formula II (wherein P is a non-acylated glycopyranosyl radical, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> are each H or OH, R<SP>31</SP> and R<SP>41</SP> are each H or acyloxy, R<SP>2</SP> is Me or CHO, and R<SP>5</SP> is a 20(22)-cardenolide or 20,22- bufadienolide lactone ring) by reacting II with an acylated 1-halo-1-deoxyglycopyranose in the presence of silver carbonate and a catalytic amount of a basic compound in an inert solvent, eliminating the water formed in the reaction by azeotropic distillation, and saponifying the resulting acylated glycopyranoside. The basic compound may be Na 2 CO 3 , KHCO 3 , CaCO 3 , MgO, Al 2 O 3 or Al(OH) 3 . |
