1,215,393. Substituted phenyl carbamic esters. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 5 April, 1968 [6 April, 1967], No. 16390/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division A5] The invention relates to substituted phenyl carbamic esters of the general formula in which R denotes a halogen atom or a nitro, monochloromethyl, dichloromethyl, trichloromethyl, trifluoromethyl, methyl or mesyl group and R<SP>1</SP> denotes a halogen atom or a nitro, monochloromethyl, dichloromethyl, trichloromethy], trifluoromethyl, methyl, mesyl or methoxy group, R and R<SP>1</SP>, however, not denoting chlorine simultaneously. The compounds may be prepared by (1) reacting with phosgene a substituted aniline of the formula and reacting the resulting isocyanate of the general formula with methanol; or (2) a m-substituted nitrobenzene has the p-substituent introduced and is then reduced to the corresponding aniline (Claim 3) which is reacted with phosgene and the isocyanate produced reacted with methanol; or (3) the amino compound formed by reducing the nitro group in the compound of formula is reacted with methylchlorocarbonate in the presence of an acid-binding agent. Compound claimed per se is methyl N-(3-chloro-4-bromophenyl)carbamate. In an example methyl N-4-bromo-3-chlorophenyl carbamate is prepared by reacting methanol with 4-bromo-3- chlorophenyl isocyanate. |
