The present invention is directed to the discovery of compounds of the structure 2-[(3-chlorophenyl)amino]phenylacetic acid and 2-[(2-chlorophenyl)amino]phenylacetic acid that inhibit the nonenzymatic attachment of glucose to albumin, preventing the formation of glycated albumin. The compounds are useful in preventing and treating disorders of the kidney and other organs that result from deleterious effects of glycated albumin.
