PURPOSE: An apparatus for filtering water is provided to adjust the sucking force of a cleaning part according to the sizes of foreign materials and to prevent the introduction of external foreign materials into an elevating part. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for filtering water includes a main body(1), a screen(2), a driving part(3), a spline shaft(4), and a cleaning part(5). The screen is installed in the main body and filters foreign materials from water. A female screw part(21) is arranged at the lower side of the screen. The cleaning part includes an elevating part(51) and a plurality of sucking parts(52). One part of the elevating part is combined with the spline shaft. Another part of the elevating part is inserted to the foreign material discharging part(113) of the main body. The elevating part rotates and elevates. A male screw part(511) is formed at the external side of the elevating part. The sucking parts suck foreign materials filtered by the screen. The sucking parts rotate and elevate with the elevating part. The cleaning part discharges the foreign materials sucked form the sucking parts through the foreign material discharging part.
