The method involves determining evolution of oxygen rate at a level of an inlet of a particle filter over predetermined duration (21). The evolution of the oxygen rate is determined (22) at the level of an outlet of the particle filter for the predetermined duration. The evolutions of the oxygen rates are compared (23) at the level of the inlet and the outlet of the particle filter if the particle filter is absent. The particle filter is provided with a substrate comprising a part that is impregnated with oxidation catalyst. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for diagnosis of absence of a particle filter in an exhaust line of an internal combustion engine (2) a vehicle comprising an internal combustion engine.
