PURPOSE: An air-conditioner equipped with an air cleaner filtering dusts from inhaled air and a control method of the air-conditioner are provided to prevent the contact between a dust box and a dust cleaning unit when the dust box is elevated. CONSTITUTION: An air-conditioner comprises a main body unit(1), a decorative panel(21), an air cleaner(40), a cleaning unit(51), a dust box(57), an elevating member, a position detection member, and an elevation control member. The air cleaner collects the dust from air inhaled through an intake grill of the decorative panel. The dust cleaning unit scans the lower part of the air filter, and removes dusts from the air filter. If it is detected that the dust cleaning unit is not on top of the dust box by the position detection member, the elevation control member controls the elevating member to move up and down.
