<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas barrier film that has sufficient gas barrier properties to oxygen and water vapor, and also has flexibility. <P>SOLUTION: The gas barrier film 1 includes forming a film 5 containing a metal fluoride and metal oxide composite which has distributed a metal fluoride particle 3 in a metal oxide matrix 4 on one side or both sides of a polymer film base material 2, wherein the metal oxide matrix 4 is a metal oxide formed from a metal alkoxide, its hydrolysate, or its condensate, the metal fluoride particle 3 is a magnesium fluoride particle in which the particle size is ≥20 nm and ≤100 nm, and at least 90 vol% of the film 5 is the metal fluoride and metal oxide composite.
