<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a telephone system by which a user can respond to an incoming extension call without disconnecting or holding the call when the extension call comes in to an extension telephone being used. <P>SOLUTION: When an incoming call comes in, an extension telephone monitoring part 207 of a main device 2 determines whether the called extension telephone is being used or not. When it is determined that the telephone is being used, an automatic response determination part 208 automatically respond to the call, and a speech overlapping part 203 outputs the speech from the incoming call to the extension telephone overlapping it with the existing call speech.
