<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet processing apparatus capable of performing sheet alignment in a short time without generating a fold in a sheet. <P>SOLUTION: Conveyed paper is stacked on a tray 20. Alignment guides 60a, 60b align the paper on the tray 20 so that the first side extending in an x-axis direction of the paper aligns. An alignment paddle 50 and a reference part 56 align the paper on the tray 20 so that the second side extending in a y-axis direction of the paper aligns at a timing temporally overlapping with the alignment of the paper by the alignment guides 60a, 60b. The alignment paddle 50 imparts force to the major surface of the paper in the x-axis direction so that the second side is in contact with the reference part 56.
