<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing, from ammonia, hydrogen to be supplied as a combustion improver to an ammonia combustion engine, the method reducing the amount of a decomposition catalyst to be charged in an ammonia-decomposing device, maintaining hydrogen production efficiency, reducing a hydrogen production cost, and smoothly achieving in turn the very efficient operation of an ammonia combustion engine at a low cost. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing hydrogen from ammonia uses: an ammonia-decomposing device which generates hydrogen as a combustion improver; and an ammonia-oxidizing device which makes part of introduced ammonia react with oxygen by an effect of an oxidizing catalyst to burn the part of the ammonia so as to supply heat which is necessary for an ammonia-decomposing reaction. In the method, the amounts of ammonia and air, which are introduced into the oxidizing device, are controlled in accordance with the temperature at an entrance to an ammonia-oxidizing catalyst layer, and the ammonia decomposition rate in the ammonia-decomposing device is set to be always 40-60%. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
