<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor which when performing fallback processing within limited free memory, minimizes a time for compression after waiting for a free memory is finished, even when a compressibility is high. <P>SOLUTION: The image processor which generates image data from drawing information and thereafter compresses the image data to store in a memory determines whether the data capacity of the image data exceeds a difference value between a free capacity which can be secured in the memory and a first threshold determined from a memory capacity usable in the memory (S404). When a CPU determines that the difference value from the first threshold is exceeded, background compressed data is not stored in the memory and a compression part performs idle compression processing which compresses the image data (S405).
