A spherical annular seal member (39) is provided with a spherical annular base body (37) defined by annular end faces (35, 36), and an outer layer (38) integrally formed with the spherical annular base body (37). The spherical annular base body (37) is equipped with a reinforcing material (5) formed from a wire net, and a heat-resistance material (6) containing expanded graphite that was compressed. The outer layer (38) is equipped with: a base layer (46) containing a compressed reinforcing material (15) formed from a wire net, and a heat-resisting material (14) which fills in the mesh of the wire net of reinforcing material (15), has a surface (52) for forming an outer-layer middle layer surface (42) along with the surface (41) of reinforcing member (15), and contains expanded graphite that was compressed; and a fired slide layer (40) formed from a molten fluororesin composition on the outer-layer middle layer surface (42) of the base layer (46). The externally-exposed surface (44) of the outer layer (38) is formed from the smooth surface (45) of the fired slide layer (40).
