The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for generating meta-information of content data, and relates to a method and apparatus for generating meta-information of content data, said method comprising: a first step of determining a time point or period of content data on which meta-information is to be generated; a second step of extracting partial DNA information related to the determined time point or period; and a third step of generating meta-information including the extracted partial DNA information. According to the present invention, the meta-information can be generated on the basis of partial or entire DNA information of the content data, thereby enabling accurate positioning and thus being capable of being used in an edited version and copy of another format.
