Applying a liquid coating to a continuous web

The webs e.g. of paper passes over the upper part of an applicator roller against which it is held under tension by a pair of diametrically opposed tension rollers, and then lower part of the applicator roller contacts a supply roller immersed in the treatment liquid (e.g. dye) so that as the web in pulled through the devices it rotates the applicator and supply rollers and the liquid is applied to the paper. Pref. the tension rollers are carried on a mounting which is movable away from the applicator roller. The arrangement requires no drive motor.
