The device has an encased, dual row shelf storage (1) with supply storage places (10) for storing articles i.e. medicament packages (3). A shelf control device (2) is controlled by a control (11), and places and removes the articles into/from the storage places. The shelf control device is switched by the control from a stand-by state into a ready state based on a signal of a door sensor (12). The control device is not ready for placing and removing the articles in the stand-by state. The control device is ready for placing and removing the articles in the ready state.
