1284240 Endless passenger conveyers GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 9 Dec 1970 [19 Jan 1970] 58429/70 Heading B8A The handrail of a passenger conveyer or escalator comprises a central portion and edge portions 39 connected to the central portion by hinge portions 40 having a thickness less than that of the central and edge portions. The handrail is reinforced longitudinally by steel bands 41 and transversely by a textile material 42. In use the edge portions are folded under the central portion and their opposed surfaces 43 engage the flanges 27 of a guide member 25 secured to the top of a balustrade 4. Trim members 30, also secured to the balustrade, engage at one end 32 in a slot 33 in the guide member 25 and a portion 31 thereof serves to retain the handrail in its folded condition. That portion of the central portion not covered by the folded edge portions has a friction surface 46 to engage with a similar surface (48), Fig. 4 (not shown), on a drive roller (7). |
