Composite foam mouldings for seating - with flexible foam core in self skinned microcellular cover

Composite blocks comprise a core of low density flexible foam, pref. polyurethane, bonded with a thick layer of a microcellular self skinning foam, which acts both as a decorative cover and as an elastic reinforcement for the core block, the cord pref. being a slab cut from a relatively large prefabricated block or profile. Pref. the cover layer is also a polyurethane, formed in situ round an insert core, both the core and the composite moulding esp. being parallelpipedic, with a relief pattern moulded into the surface skin. Claimed for mfr. of upholstery, esp seats or squabs for vehicles, furniture, etc. Combines the comfort of the flexible core with local support by the microcellular foam and a durable surface obtained without ancillary tailoring or shaping operations.
