A puller speed control device for controlling dimensions of extrudate. The device includes an extrudate puller device and a non-contact measuring device configured to detect variations in the dimensions of the extrudate. The puller speed control has a real time processor in communication with the non-contact measuring device and the extrudate puller device. The real time processor is configured to respond to the variations in the dimensions of the cellulosic composite extrudate by adjusting speed of the extrudate puller device. The puller speed control has an interactive touch screen display unit operationally connected to a second processor. The second processor is synchronized with the real time processor to permit operator interaction with the real time processor through the interactive touch screen display unit without interfering with response of the real time processor to the variations in the dimensions of the extrudate. The real time processor is configured to receive a measurement signal from the non-contact measuring device and send a command signal to the extrudate puller device without communicating with the interactive touch screen display unit or the second processor in the interim between receiving the measurement signal and sending the command signal.
