A fastener 12c driving tool 10 for driving fasteners 12c toward a work surface, comprises a body 20 having a forward end 22, a rear end 24, a cylinder 26 with an axis 28, a piston 50 mounted within the cylinder 26, a power source 34 for driving the piston 50 axially forwardly, a driver blade 32 extending axially forwardly from the piston 50, a nosepiece 36 extending axially forwardly from the forward end 22 of the tool body 20, and a fastener guide 44 through which the fasteners 12c are driven toward the work surface. The fasteners 12c are collated by a plurality of collation sleeves 64b, each having a lower end. Each fastener 12c has a tip 64c which may project up to ½ inch from the lower end. The fastener guide 44 extends axially forwardly from the nosepiece 36, and is movable with respect to the nosepiece 36 between an extended position and a retracted position. A drive bore is formed by the nosepiece 36 and the fastener guide 44 for guiding the fasteners 12c and the driver blade 32 toward the work surface. There is an opening into the drive bore 38 for the fasteners 12c and collation sleeves 64b, the opening providing clearance through which the fasteners 12c and collation sleeves 64b can pass. The opening into the drive bore 38 has a main channel sized to accommodate the collation sleeves. The main channel is demarcated into a front channel and a rear channel by a pair of rails. the opening further comprises a head channel for accommodating fastener heads, a tip channel of a fixed depth of up to about 1/2 inch for providing a clearance through which the tips 64c can pass, and a magazine for guiding the fasteners 12c to the opening.
