<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool with a hard coat layer exhibiting excellent peeling resistance and wear resistance in high-speed heavy cutting. <P>SOLUTION: In the surface-coated cutting tool in which a Ti compound consisting of at least one or more layers of TiN, TiC, TiCN, TiCO, TiCNO as a lower layer, and an α-type Al<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O<SB POS="POST">3</SB>layer as an upper layer are formed by vapor deposition on a surface of a tool base body, chromium oxide particles of 5-100 nm in mean particle size are scattered and distributed like islands along an interface between the lower and upper layers at a line segment rate of 30-80% per interface unit length to increase the bond strength between the lower and upper layers, and crystal orientation distribution of the α-type Al<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O<SB POS="POST">3</SB>layer as the upper layer is controlled to increase the wear resistance of the hard coat layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
