The invention relates to a method for evening out the width of a detection zone around a vehicle (V) of a control housing of a hands-free access system including two side antennas (A1, A2) and a rear antenna (A3). The invention comprises, for a pair of adjacent antennas (A1/A3), carrying out measurements of the magnetic field generated during a combined transmission of said adjacent antennas and of the magnetic field individually generated by each of said adjacent antennas, so as to split the coverage zone of said adjacent antennas into three separate contiguous zones consisting of a zone running along the side, a rear corner zone, and a zone running along the rear, and selecting, for each zone running along the side/rear, a detection threshold having a predetermined value based on the selected width of the detection zone and measured during the combined transmission of the two adjacent antennas (A1, A3), and selecting, for each rear corner zone, a detection threshold that is reduced relative to the detection thresholds of the zones running along the side/rear and adapted such that said detection zone of the rear corner has a width equivalent to that of the detection zone of the zones running along the side/rear.
