The invention relates to a device for protecting against overcurrent generated by a power distribution system in which distributed power is connected, the device comprising: a measuring unit for measuring the voltage and current of each phase; a fault detection unit for comparing the current with a set current and detecting a fault on the basis of the comparison result; a direction determination unit for determining a fault type, and determining whether a fault direction of each determined fault type is a forward or backward direction using a direction-determining element of a negative-phase sequence component and a direction-determining element of a positive-phase sequence component; and a breaking unit for protecting against over current by operating a breaker if the fault direction is a forward direction.
