<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem of the conventional controller in which: power consumption may be increased due to fail-safe processing resulting from occurrence of an abnormal short circuit at switching elements Swp, Swn of an inverter IV. <P>SOLUTION: If an abnormal short circuit occurs, relays SMR1, SMR2 are turned off to separate a high-voltage battery 20 from an inverter IV. Also, for example, by setting both of a switching element Swp on a U-phase high-potential side and a switching element Swn on the low-potential side in an on state, upper and lower arms are shorted. Thus, an absolute value of an electric current running through a motor generator 10 as an onboard main machine is suppressed.
