<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and so on that read the content of a memory via contacts that operate relative to each other, the apparatus and so on being configured to restrain adverse effect on the operation of the apparatus even if conduction failure occurs due to ingress of dust or the like between the contacts. <P>SOLUTION: Prior to the start of an operation, the stored content of a memory is read. If reading fails, a member to which a circuit substrate with the memory mounted thereon is driven, thereby allowing the contacts to conduct electricity between them.
