The method involves operating electrical energy storage (S) i.e. capacitor, in an intermediate circuit (ZK) and an electromotor (EM) in a load circuit of an inverter (WR), which is controlled by a control unit. A maintenance state of the storage is determined to modify a preset value that influences electrical power of the motor. The state of the storage is determined by evaluation of time behavior of a resonance circuit (RK), which forms the storage with parasitic inductances (LP) of supply lines (I, I') or with inductances of filter components of a vehicle battery (BAT). An independent claim is also included for an electrical power steering unit of the motor car.
