Stabilized pharmaceutical compositions suitable for parenteral administration comprise an aqueous solution containing a water-soluble salt of a 21-phosphate ester of a 21-hydroxy steroid and a stabilizer selected fromα-monothioglycerol and thioglycolic acid. The composition may contain 0.10 to 10 mg of stabilizer per ml of composition. The 21-phosphate ester may be cortisone, hydrocortisone, prednisone, predinsolone, 9α-fluoro-prednisone, 9α-fluoroprednisolone, dexamethasone, paramethasone, triamcinolone or 16 #-methylprednisone-21-phosphates. The composition may also contain antioxidants, preservatives, chelating agents, buffers and/or other therapeutically active ingredients.
