PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent jamming of a sheet or deviation of a sheet from a conveyance path in a printer using a thick print sheet. SOLUTION: A sheet bail device 31 with a rotary bail arm 37 is arranged on a conveyance path. The gear 44 of a shifter shaft contained in the sheet bail device is linked with the gear 45 of a sheet conveyance mechanism, and the shifter shaft switches the rotary bail arm 37 between a position directly under a printer head and a containing position in the sheet bail device depending on the conveyance direction of sheet. When the sheet is conveyed downstream, the rotary bail arm 37 projects above the conveyance path to prevent floating of the sheet. When the sheet is rewound and printed, the rotary bail arm 37 retreats in the sheet bail device from a position directly under the printer head and does not disturb print operation of the printer head.
