An image display apparatus and a method of setting a preference menu are provided to set menu items frequently used by a user as a preference menu to allow the user to easily select the menu items. An image display apparatus includes a tuner(10) for receiving a broadcasting signal, a demultiplexer(11) for splitting the received broadcasting signal into an audio signal, a video signal and additional information, an audio processor(12) for processing the audio signal, a speaker(13) for outputting the processed audio signal, a video processor(14) for processing the video signal, and a display(15) for outputting the processed video signal. The apparatus further includes a key input unit(16) through which a user inputs a control command, an OSD(On Screen Display) processor(18) for generating an OSD image and providing menu items, a controller(17) for setting a preference menu according to the control command of the user and displaying only preference menu items, and a memory(19) for storing the preference menu. |
