A wireless local area network switching method and system are disclosed in the present invention. The method includes that: a wireless communication terminal obtains status information and reports the status information to an access point; the access point pre-estimates switching residual time according to the status information reported by the wireless communication terminal, and notifies an adjacent access point in the direction of movement to prepare switching when the pre-estimated switching residual time is less than or equal to a predetermined notification time threshold. The wireless local area network switching method and system of the present invention can reduce a switching time delay effectively.
