摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type video display device which effectively and sufficiently suppresses generation of a speckle, using a coherent light source. <P>SOLUTION: A laser beam L50 generated by a laser source 50 is reflected by a light beam scanner 60, allowing a reflection type and volume type hologram recording medium 45 to be exposed to the beam. An image 35 for illumination is recorded as a hologram in the hologram recording medium 45. The light beam scanner 60 bends the laser beam L50 at a scanning reference point B, so that the hologram recording medium 45 is exposed to the beam. On this occasion, the bending mode of the laser beam is varied with time, such that the position of the hologram recording medium 45 exposed to a bent laser beam L60 is varied with time during scanning. Irrespective of the exposure position of the beam, a diffraction beam L45 from the hologram recording medium 45 creates a reproduced image 35 for illumination on a spatial light modulator 200.
