The cooler has housing portions (3, 4) for formation of a casing of gas-flow-through rectangular pipes (1), where a cooling fluid flows through the casing. Ends of the pipes are accommodated in passages of a pipe base (2), and an end edge of the housing portions is shock-flush mounted in a guide of the pipe base. A locking element (8) is connected with the end edge and completely penetrates through the pipe base in a region of an outer pipe in a direction of the pipes. The locking element is formed as a protruding flap, a soldered nut or a projection.
