The device (1) has an execution unit (2) e.g. arithmetic and logic unit, output shift register and address computation unit, with temporary registers (T1, T2). A switch (SW1) connects two feedback paths (FB1, FB2). A logic stage controls the switch, and a control stage (SWCNTL) controls the switch for connecting one of the feedback paths if data output of the execution unit in an operation of the execution unit is utilized as an operand. The control stage connects the feedback path in response to an instruction of the execution unit for using a dedicated register of a register data set (5). An independent claim is also included for a method for operating an electronic device.
