<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator device that adjusts overbalance by use of natural energy. <P>SOLUTION: The elevator device is adapted to lift an elevator car and a counterweight on the principle of a well bucket. A storage tank 21 for storing water is installed in a position higher than the highest position of the counterweight 14. An adjusting tank 16 is fixed to the counterweight and stores water from the storage tank. A first measuring instrument 15 measures the loading mass of the elevator car. A second measuring instrument 18 measures the mass of water in the adjusting tank. An adjusting part 19 is installed in an intermediate position of the lifting process of the counterweight, and feeds water stored in the storage tank to the adjusting tank and discharges water in the adjusting tank to a drain passage.
