PURPOSE: A moving picture sampling method and a system thereof are provided to generate a thumb nail by summarizing the whole content of moving picture file. CONSTITUTION: A moving picture sampling system extracts a plurality of snapshots from a video file(101). The moving picture sampling system calculates the content amount of an extracted snapshot(102). The moving picture sampling system deletes duplicated snapshots(103). The moving picture sampling system selects a fixed number of snapshots which is top ranked in the content amount from the snapshots. The moving picture sampling system generates a thumb nail(104).
