An imaging apparatus is capable of preventing unintended changes in settings such as white balance adjustment, shutter speed, diaphragm value, exposure correction and ISO sensitivity when a through-image is displayed at a zoom position 601 different from that at a field angle for real shooting. The imaging apparatus includes a recording control means to record a zoom position before a start of a function, a zoom control means to perform control to move the zoom position from a first position to a second position when the function is started, and from the second position to the first position when the function is ended, and a control means configured to perform control, when the zoom position is at the second position. The imaging apparatus may include a framing assist (FA) button in addition to a zoom button, the apparatus being configured so as to store a current zoom position by pressing the FA button, drive zooming to a wide field angle position, then return the zooming to the stored zoom position by releasing the FA button, so as not to receive any change of shooting setting made during execution of the FA function. |
