PURPOSE: An ultrasonic system and method for providing an elastic image based on a lateral directional displacement compensation process are provided to reduce a strain variation in a frame by using strain with a preset range. CONSTITUTION: Second ultrasonic data is obtained when an object is compressed. The second ultrasonic data corresponds to each scan line. A displacement of an axial direction and a displacement of a lateral direction are compensated for the second ultrasonic data by using the first ultrasonic data and the second ultrasonic data(S404,S412). An elastic image is formed by using the compensated second ultrasonic data(S416).
