The device (1) has a detection device (4) including sensors (6, 8) to detect opening of a driver's door of a motor car and the state of charging process of an electrical energy storage device of the motor car while opening the door of the car. An output unit (10) outputs information of the detected state of the charging process while opening the door of the car. The output unit comprises display units to output optical signals. The detection device is arranged out of the car and connected to a storage device via a charging interface and/or a charging cable. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring a charge of an electrical energy storage device of a motor car.
