An automatic door intended for public transport. The central part of the leaf of the door (4) is hinged on levers (Z) of a rotary spindle (2) mounted on the bottom (1) at the edge of the door opening. A runner (b) is mounted at the other edge of the leaf in a guide groove fixed parallel to the door opening. The runner is connected to a rod (7) of a pneumatic cylinder (8) (to a slide of a rodless cylinder), the body of which rod is spring-mounted relative to the bottom (first alternative). A catch (11) for the leaf is fixed to the body of the cylinder. After complete closing of the leaf, air entering the cylinder displaces the body of said cylinder together with the catch and, with the resilience of a spring (JU) being overcome, immobilizing takes place. In another alternative, the body of the cylinder is rigidly fixed to the bottom and the catch of the leaf is connected to a rod of a second pneumatic cylinder (17) and is spring-mounted relative to the bottom, wherein working cavities of the cylinders are connected to one another. After complete closing of the leaf, the air displaces the rod of the second cylinder together with the catch and, with the resilience of a spring (19) being overcome, immobilizing takes place. Both alternatives ensure automatic opening of the door from any intermediate position upon a signal from a switch (13) (20) if a passenger becomes jammed in the doors (see drawing). The maximum jamming force is set by selection of the rigidity of the corresponding spring.
