To prevent an increase in the temperature of an X-ray detector while avoiding an increase in the size of the X-ray detector resulting from a cooling unit being attached thereto, provided is an X-ray diagnostic system which has an X-ray irradiation means for applying X-rays; an X-ray detector for detecting X-rays having passed through a subject to output image data; and a controller for controlling the X-ray irradiation means and the X-ray detector. The X-ray diagnostic system is adapted to include an exposure preparation state detection means for detecting the state of exposure preparation for taking an X-ray radiograph of the subject; and a power switching section for turning on a power supply for the X-ray detector or turning off the activated power supply in response to a detected result provided by the exposure preparation state detection means.
