The endoscope is provided with an insertion part for insertion into a body cavity, a rigid leading end body provided on the leading end side of the insertion part, and a functional part installed in the rigid leading end body. The endoscope is also provided with a first internal surface that is provided from the leading end of the rigid leading end body in the longitudinal direction and which defines a first space that accommodates the functional part, a first external exposed part that is exposed to the external circumference of the rigid leading end body and is provided along the longitudinal direction, and a weak area that is provided from the first external exposed part towards the first internal surface. The weak part is ruptured more easily than other non-weak-area parts of the rigid leading end body.
