The device has a thermal and acoustic damping insulation material (10) for shielding a portion of an internal combustion engine. The insulation material comprises a layered structure made of a planar decoration layer (16), a planar thermal barrier coating layer (18) and a folding layer (20). The folding layer consists of a folded or corrugated folding medium (19a) arranged between the decoration layer and a heat-insulating layer. The folding medium is made from plastic film, paper or woven/non-woven flat medium. The thermal barrier coating layer comprises a metal i.e. aluminum.
