<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the consumption of useless electric power in communication between an imaging apparatus and a position information acquisition device. <P>SOLUTION: A CPU 202 of a global positioning system (GPS) unit 201 determines whether position information is acquired from a positioning part 203 or not, and transmits a position information giving prohibition signal to a camera unit 251 from a radio communication transmission part 208 when it is determined that the position information is not acquired. Then, the CPU 202 reduces supply power of a radio communication reception part 207 via a power source control part 206. In a case where the position information giving prohibition signal is received from the GPS unit 201 in the camera unit 251, it is determined that the position information cannot be given to image data, to thereby notify a user of a fact that the position information is not given to an image by using a display part 260.
