<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for manufacturing a plate-like object, and a device and a method for grinding an end surface of the plate-like object. <P>SOLUTION: The end surface grinding device 22 chamfers the end surface of a glass plate G by means of an end surface chamfering grindstone 36 in the state of supporting the vicinity of an end of the glass plate G by supporting rollers 68, 68, ... while conveying the glass plate G by a conveyance means 16. The supporting rollers 68, 68, ... abut on an undersurface of the glass plate G during conveyance, advance/recede in the direction of getting close to/getting away from the end surfaces Ga and Gb, with respect to the conveyance direction of the glass plate G, depending on an end surface position to grind the glass plate G, and support the vicinity of the end of the glass plate G. A position to support the glass plate G by the supporting rollers 68, 68, ... is set as a position in which the end of the glass plate G is not greatly sagged by self-weight.
